This is undeniable fact that Trading is an indispensible service to the Nation in general and for the citizens or consumers in particular. There should be no hindrance by the anti social elements. In the year 1970, in the Urban area of Chennai and in the Suburban areas, the traders had to face the challenge of such anti social elements. In those days, traders felt the necessity of unity among the traders. In the year 1980, Chennai, Chennai Puranagar Vanigar Sangam was started and integrated in the year 1981. Entry Tax was introduced by the Tamil Nadu Government in the year 1983 and to protest this decision of the Government, it was necessary to unite all the traders spread over the State. Though the Traders chose peaceful agitation, Government treated the Traders as Criminals and imprisoned the leaders of the Traders’ Associations.
